There are also many membrane materials commonly used in membrane structure buildings. We can choose the appropriate membrane material according to different needs. But before choosing, we must understand the type of membrane material and its characteristics, so as not to choose blindly. We know that the membrane materials commonly used in membrane structure buildings are PVC, PVDF, PVF, and PTFE. Let's take a closer look.
PVC film (PVC-Coated Polyester)
PVC membrane is cheaper in material and processing than PTFE membrane, and has the advantages of soft material and easy construction. However, it is inferior to PTFE membrane in terms of strength, durability, and fire resistance. PVC film material is made of polyester fiber fabric and PVC coating (polyvinyl chloride). The film for general construction is coated on the surface of the PVC coating material with several micron thick acrylic resin. (acrylic) to improve antifouling. However, after a few years, it will become discolored, stained, and deteriorated. The durability of general PVC film is 5 ~ 8 years depending on the use environment. In order to improve the weatherability of PVC film materials, in recent years, fluorine-based resins have been developed as coatings on the surface treatment of PVC coating materials to improve their weather resistance and antifouling properties.
PVDF
PVDF is the abbreviation of Polyvinylidene Fluoride. The material that is coated with PVDF resin on the surface of PVC film is called PVDF film. Compared with ordinary PVC film, PVDF film has improved its service life to about 7-10 years.
PVF
PVF is an abbreviation for Polyvinyl Fluoride. PVF film is made of PVF resin on the surface treatment of PVC film. It has better durability than PVDF film and has the advantages of anti-staining. However, because of its poor workability, workability, and fire resistance, its use is limited.
PTFE Coated Fiberglass
PTFE membrane is made of polytetrafluoroethylene resin on ultra-fine glass fiber fabric. The biggest feature of PTFE membrane is its high durability, fire resistance and stain resistance. However, compared with PVC film, PTFE film has high material and processing costs and low flexibility. In order to avoid glass fiber breakage during construction, special treatment tools and construction technology are required.
Durability: The coating material's PTFE is very stable to chemicals such as acids and osmium and ultraviolet rays, and it is not easy to discolor or crack. After long-term use, glass fibers do not cause deterioration in strength or decrease in tension. The color of the film is generally white, the light transmittance is high, and the durability is more than 25 years.
Antifouling: Because the coating material is polytetrafluoroethylene resin, the surface friction coefficient is low, so it is not easy to be contaminated, and it can be washed by rain.
Fire-resistance: PTFE membrane meets the requirements of fire-resistant materials tested in nearly all countries, and can replace other roofing materials for equivalent use.
